Are your thoughts constantly undermining you?
Not convinced? Let me show you how it all begins with a thought.
Have you ever thought to yourself:
- I can’t do that
- I’m not smart enough
- I’m too old
- I’m too young
- I’ll never be happy
- I’ll never succeed
If you answered yes to any of these don’t worry, you’re not alone. So many people all around the world discourage themselves with their thinking. Their thoughts hold them back from your full potential. But now that you know better it’s time to make a change!!
“What we think, we become” ~ Buddha
How? Your dominant thoughts influence what and how you think. So if you think positive about yourself you promote positive feelings and a high spirit, which influences the way you interact with the world around you.For example if you continuously think positively then it’ll be easier for you to conjure up positive thoughts. Alternatively, if you think negatively all the time your thoughts will be drawn to a negative style of thinking. (This has to do with your subconscious mind). So you see, it really does all begin with a thought.
Thinking encourages action
Taking effective action is the only way to improve your life. The only way to accomplish your goals and achieve your dreams!
So why then am I focusing an entire series on thought? Because it’s your thinking that influences the action that you take. If you think back to a time when you gave up before trying you’d most likely find it was you who convinced yourself that you couldn’t. You thought you couldn’t, so you didn’t try.
Think of your thoughts like a general and your action like cadets. Your general barks orders, and the cadets respond. They don’t question anything, because they have nothing to question. They trust their general and they act out his/her orders. Think of your thoughts the same way. If a person thinks they’re inferior, they act inferior. So if you think you’re inferior, then you are. Not because you deserve to be, but because like the cadet you’re only acting out your orders.
This is the power that your thoughts have. They have the power to encourage or discourage action. That’s why the aim of this series is to make your thoughts so strong that they force desirable action to be taken.
For your thoughts to inspire action they need to be developed, which will take time. So be patient, but also persistent. The more you work on them the stronger they’ll become.
“All action results from thought, so it is thoughts that matter” ~ Sai Baba
If what we constantly think about leads to who we become, then what kind of person are you choosing to be every day? An optimistic person, who thinks they can accomplish all their goals and dreams? Or a pessimistic one who thinks they’ll never accomplish anything? The choice may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how often people get it wrong. If you’re still not sure, then test it. Think about all the things you hate, think about all your shortcomings, think about all the times life has ripped you off. Do this for a week and then ask yourself if you’ve become a more hateful, bitter, feeling sorry for yourself person…for the record, I don’t recommend doing this. Now for the actual test. Don’t worry it’s not hard. It doesn’t require any massive effort. In fact it’s pretty easy. All that’s required is a change in your thinking. For the next two weeks follow the guide I’ve created here: A quick guide to happiness. If you do it properly, you’ll begin to notice a difference in your attitude and your feelings after a week. But be sure to give it at least two (weeks) to be certain. If you notice even the slightest change in how you feel, remember that was only two weeks. Imagine how differently you’ll feel after a few months or a year. Imagine the person you could become, just by changing your thinking style.
Give it a go…you’ve got nothing to lose.
Remember it may take more than a few weeks until you’re where you want to be. But that was just an example to demonstrate how much of a difference your thinking can affect your quality of life in such a short time. What’s even better is with practice you can develop your thinking even further. Isn’t that exciting, to know your happiness is within your control?
