Release your inner voice for a happier life
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift” ~ Albert Einstein
What is intuition? Is it just a weird feeling you get every now and then? Or can it be used to help make life’s decisions?
More often than not, we use logic and analysis to make key decisions, because it’s the safe option. But what about when something’s not so black and white? What about when we’re being pushed one way but our heart is telling us to go another? Enter intuition!

Intuition…your internal GPS
Often referred to as your sixth sense, inner voice, a hunch, gut feeling or following your heart, but put simply intuition is understanding something without the need for conscious reasoning. Think of it like your own personal memory bank. It accumulates all of your past knowledge and experiences and stores it within your nonconscious (unconscious and subconscious) mind.Over the course of your life you archive all kinds of info into this private memory bank. Your intuition taps into this gold mine of information and alerts you through different sensations – the only way it can – e.g. getting butterflies. This is why you’ll feel sure about something without understanding why. Essentially, while your conscious mind may have forgotten, your nonconscious hasn’t.
So trusting your intuition isn’t like trusting some unexplainable magic – think of it like your own internal life GPS.

Analysing every question
You need to accept that your hopes and dreams won’t always be rational. And they can’t be accomplished using only logic.
For the record, I understand how difficult it is to trust your intuition, because intuition often defies logic. And we spend most of our life obeying the rules of logic. But if there’s no clear set of rules for how we’re supposed to navigate life, then why do we trust our logic like it’ll never let us down? Sometimes we won’t have the answer to every decision before making it. But does that mean we avoid the question? Clearly not!
Applying logic can be beneficial, but also flawed. It leaves little room for creativity and flexibility. And you’ll need both to be able to accomplish your goals and dreams.
How boring would life be if every decision we made was based on logic anyway? It’d be the quickest way to suck the fun out of life.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life…Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition” ~ Steve Jobs
Looking outwards, instead of inwards
We’re all guilty of looking outside ourselves – to friends, family, social media, Google – for the answers that we’re looking for, but ultimately no one, or nothing will give you those answers. Why? Because they’re not you. The most they can offer is advice based on someone else’s past experience. You’re the only one who knows what you truly want!
What your intuition does, is help you align with your life goals through every decision you make. If you make a decision that’s not in line with your goals you’ll feel uncomfortable (because you’re going against what you really want).
You can always ask someone else’s advice. Sometimes that advice can help you realise what you already know. But don’t just take it at face value…after all how does someone else know what’s best for you.
Is it your decision?
If you let others make your decisions because you’re scared, you’ll continue to miss out on life’s opportunities. Life’s big questions can be scary, but allowing someone else to decide for you is destructive to your growth for two reasons:
1. You risk getting the wrong answer: Someone else can only give you an answer based on what they think and have experienced. And while that answer may work for you, there’s just as much chance that it won’t because of different circumstances.
2. You’ll weaken your inner voice: The more you ignore your inner voice for someone else’s the more unclear it becomes.
From time to time this will mean going against others decision, which can be difficult. So remind yourself why you’re doing this, for your happiness.
It happens a lot with parents. Although well intended, parents tend to think they always know what’s best.
